Psalm of Lament

Prayer for Freedom from Heartache

          Why, O God?  Why must I endure this suffering?  What is it that I have done to bring this heartache upon me? Have I not served faithfully the Lord God, and obeyed His every command?   Have you forgotten me, O Lord?  When will your face shine upon me again?  How long must I await freedom from this turmoil?  The pain is a heavy weight upon my chest, stealing the life from within me.
          Deliver me, Lord!  I cannot bear this affliction any longer.  Give my soul the will to dance again and awake my spirit to the joys of this world.  If I am to fall under the weight of this torment, my enemy will declare his victory over me and his army will rejoice in the conquering of my spirit.
          But you, O Lord, remain faithful to this day.  Your worthiness is unmatched and your love is never-ending.  It is you who will place the triumph of this pain into my hands, and it is you who will carry me out of this pit.  I will praise your glorious name until the sun rises on this wearisome night, and I will continue to sing of your goodness all the days of my life.
